A Native New Mexican, Carlos is one of the most promising young baritones in the operatic world of today, known as an exciting performer full of fire and energy. His repertoire ranges from the vibrant and virtuosic Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia and the melodic and beautiful lines of Rodrigue in Verdi’s Don Carlos to the new works of contemporary composers, such as Adams and Adamo.
Most recent engagements include his debut as Count di Luna in Il Trovatore at the Washington National Opera, a very successful Papageno in Die Zauberflote and critically acclaimed Nixon in Adams' Nixon in China in his return to Minnesota Opera, Uncle Salvaor in De Falla's La Vida Breve with Dallas Opera, Belcore in L'elisir d'amore with Orlando Opera and Washington National Opera, and Papageno in Die Zaurberflöte with Utah Opera.Upcoming engagements include his Boston Lyric Opera debut as Sharpless in Madame Butterfly, the Pirate King in Pirates of Penzace with the Deer Valley Summer Festival, his return to Minnesota Opera as Count Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, and his Tulsa Opera debut as Escamillo.
Other recent engagements include Silvio in Pagliacci and Baritone Soloist in Carmina Burana with Orlando Opera, Escamillo in Carmen with Dayton Opera,Bello in La Fanciulla del West with Utah Symphony & Opera, Agamemnon cover in La Belle Helene and the role of Accuser in the World Premiere of Bright Sheng’s Madame Mao at Santa Fe Opera; John Brooke in Adamo's Little Women, Schaunard in La Bohème, Baron Duphol in La traviata all with Minnesota Opera.; Figaro in The Barber of Seville with Opera Aperta and Lyric Opera of San Antonio and Schaunard in La Bohème with Natchez Opera Festival.
With Minnesota Opera and Natchez Opera Festival,Carlos covered roles such as Germont in La Traviata, Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor, Marcello in La Bohème and Rodrigue in the original French version of Verdi's Don Carlos.
As an oratorio soloist, Mr. Archuleta has performed recently the baritone soloist in Carmina Burana with Asheville Symphony Orchestra, Handel's Messiah with the Eugene Symphony, Bach’s Cantata BWV 82Ich habe Genug with the American Festival of Microtonal Music and the Baritone Soloist of the Nielsen Symphony No. 3 (Sinfonia Espansiva) with the Minnesota Orchestra. Others include Mendelssohn's Elijah, Handel's Messiah, and the Bach Magnificat, as well as numerous performances of the Brahms Requiem with such organizations as the Masterworks Chorale, the Paul Madore Chorale, the Salem Philharmonic, the Pro Musica Chorus, and, the Boston Pro Musica Chamber Orchestra.
In his native New Mexico he has performed with the Santa Fe Pro Musica and the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra. Recent concerts have included performances with the Nashua, New Hampshire Symphony, the Choral Arts Society of Massachusetts, Boston Vocal Artists, Minnesota Symphony and Mahler's Die Kindertotenlieder in New Mexico. He has also been a guest artist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Affiliated Artist Recital Series, performing the role of Coyote in the new operatic work of Charles Shadle Coyote's Dinner. Also he was pleased to premiere a song cycle by the same composer especially written for him using text by the New Mexican poet Jim Sagel.
